Leading embedded systems consultants, Pebble Bay, have launched a series of embedded systems development workshops. Mainly aimed at software developers new to embedded development and hardware engineers that require an insight into software/hardware integration, these workshops will assist engineers in understanding the fundamentals of developing code for embedded systems. The workshops will cover topics ranging from cross development to hardware/software interfacing. The workshops are to be run in Birmingham on the 28th September and in Bristol on the 30th September. More information is available at http://www.pebblebay.com/content/new-workshop-series-days "Although these workshops are an introduction, experienced engineers facing a current challenge are encouraged to come along," said Ian Willats, workshop presenter and Managing Director of Pebble Bay. "We will be covering such issues as setting up the development environment, debugging methods and device driver development. We might not be able to solve your problem there and then, but we may well be able to offer a new perspective and some useful advice. The Pebble Bay team has a formidable breadth of experience, so I suspect we've probably encountered a fair proportion of embedded development challenges." UK based Pebble Bay is a business that helps companies build and improve all kinds of products based on microprocessors. Since the company's launch nearly five years ago, Pebble Bay has become a respected leader in the development of board support packages and hardware-software interfacing, working with companies around the world. With extensive knowledge and experience of a broad range of commercial and open-source RTOSs and a thorough understanding of microprocessor based hardware, the Pebble Bay team has become a valuable resource to the worldwide embedded systems industry. "We would also welcome engineers that are looking to move from the 8-bit and 16-bit microprocessors to the 32/64-bit family of devices," said Ian Willats. "This can sometimes seem a daunting transition and the trade-offs between power usage and performance, device complexity and development time, additional tool and device costs and future benefits can take a lot of thinking about. We've been working with 32 bit and 64 bit technology a long time, so we'll be able to offer some useful guidance based on past real-world projects, as well as clear guidance on how best to get started." Each day will include two workshops; the first being "An Introduction to Embedded Software Development Using C" and the second workshop being "An Introduction to Hardware Interfacing and Device Driver Development". The fee for attending just one session is £65+VAT and both sessions can be attended for £85+VAT. The first workshop introduces the fundamental principles of developing software for embedded systems, using the C programming language. The aim of the session is to help developers who are unfamiliar with embedded systems quickly get to grips with the special techniques used to build and debug embedded software. It includes demonstrations using an embedded target system. The second workshop introduces the fundamental principles of interfacing with hardware in an embedded system, including an overview of device drivers. It discusses plenty of essential practical techniques along with traps for the unwary and how to avoid them. The aim of the session is to de-mystify what can be considered a black art for those who have little or no experience of hardware interfacing. This workshop also includes demonstrations on an embedded target system. About Pebble Bay Pebble Bay helps businesses build and improve all kinds of products based on microprocessors.
