United Media Resources Ltd (UMR) the organisers of industry events: ‘Military Defence & Aerospace Electronics’ and ‘Advanced Automotive Electronics’ have announced that they are to take over the Embedded Masterclass - the UK's leading show and conference for developers of microprocessor based systems.
Having just celebrated the success of the 2010 Embedded Masterclass, the organisers, Energi Technical, have decided to focus on their core business of providing PR services to the engineering and technology sector, rather than have further involvement in event management.
"We are very proud of the success of the Embedded Masterclass," said Richard Blackburn, Managing Director of Energi. "It has been a lot of fun and very rewarding. We are also grateful for all the support we have received from the industry, and from our main media partners Micro Technology Europe and Automotive Electronics. This has ensured its success over the years. We sought to transfer the event to UMR as they are much better equipped to take the event forward. They understand the engineering sector and are very good at running such events in the embedded space, so they were easily the obvious choice for us."
"We are delighted to be taking on the Embedded Masterclass," said David Williams, Director of UMR. "Energi have done a great job of developing the brand and style of this popular show, and we are looking forward to building on this further. It's a great fit for UMR and will help us broaden our events offering to the embedded systems and real-time technology sector."
The term ‘embedded’ relates to the fact that many electronic devices have microprocessors ‘embedded’ within them. These devices range from washing machines to Formula 1 cars. The UK is a world leader in this field.
The first Embedded Masterclass took place in 2001 and was a collaboration of four vendors looking for a way to communicate their technology to embedded systems engineers. Developed as a 'non-sales' forum for the sharing of new information regarding new tools, hardware and software for embedded systems development, the Embedded Masterclass has grown year on year. This year more than 35 of the worlds leading vendors sponsored the event, with over 200 embedded systems engineers registering to attend. Key to the success of recent years has been the introduction of half-day technical workshops where engineers can learn about a challenging technology from an industry expert. Another development for 2010 was the banning of Power Point, asking presenters to use only a whiteboard and a marker pen.
"It's been exciting to see the Embedded Masterclass grow, and we have really enjoyed working with the vendors, engineers and editors to make it happen each year," said Richard Blackburn, "The fact is, it's grown too big for us now and we had to make a choice about how we moved forward. Our main business is in providing PR and marketing support for the technology sector, and this is what we feel we should be focused on as we move forward. We wish UMR all the best with the future events and we have every confidence that they'll continue to strive to make the UK Embedded Masterclass the most productive day of the year for European embedded systems engineers."
