At next week's Embedded Masterclass, engineers will be asked to vote for the best presentation. In an effort to raise the standard of presentations at such events, the organisers have not only banned Power Point but have also offered a prize for the best presentation.
Now in its 10th year, the Embedded Masterclass offers presentations, half-day workshops and a vendor exhibition of tools, hardware and software for the development of microprocessor based systems. The Embedded Masterclass takes place near Cambridge on May 6th and at Reading on May 11th. www.embedded-masterclass.com
"We really wanted to shake things up a bit," said Richard Blackburn, the organiser. "It's become too easy for presenters to turn up with pre-packed Power Point presentations with endless bullet points. This year the presenters will have a white board, a flip chart and hand-outs. The reaction from most everyone has been very positive, indeed some of the presenters are quite excited by the challenge and looking forward to it. The prize is an incentive to make sure they strive to deliver something special. We are always aware that our delegates are important people whose time is valuable, so this is an effort on our part to ensure we maximise the benefit they get from this part of the event."
The Embedded Masterclass has grown over the years and is now sponsored by 40 of the world's leading vendors of embedded systems technologies. Starting as a 'non-sales' forum for the sharing of information relating to the very latest technologies, the event now boasts 5 half-day technology workshops, an agenda of technical presentations and a tabletop exhibition of embedded systems technologies. The organisers strive to create a relaxing and fun, yet informative and productive day for engineers. Food and refreshments are provided, including a tea and a bacon roll on arrival, and a hot lunch.
"It's shaping up to be another great event," said Richard. "The delegate registrations are up on last year, the workshops are well subscribed and we have more industry vendors wanting to take part, even at this late stage. There are some places still available if engineers wish to come along, but they will need to register sooner than later to be sure of a place."
