| Summary: |
Stockholm, Sweden - April 19, 2002 - Interpeak today announced the release of the Interpeak Firewall, a packet filter package specifically designed for dedicated systems. The Firewall is able to protect the embedded Internet Protocol stack of a dedicated system by discarding unwanted packets that might be part of a hacker attack.
The Interpeak Firewall can be added to systems running leading operating systems such as VxWorks(R), Nucleus(TM) and OSE(TM) to protect them from security breaches coming from the Internet. |

In the next few years, billions of computers are expected to enter the Internet. The advent of e.g. Internet connected mobile phones and PDAs will contribute to an increased load on networks and routers. When more people and devices are using the Internet, the probability of corrupt, unintended or hacked packets reaching a clean computer system will increase considerably.
The intention of the hacker varies. Some attackers just want to make life hard for a system by trying to crash it or interrupt its regular service. Others may scan the system for sensible information. Some intruders may even want to take control over a system to be able to access other computers or perform hacker attacks without revealing his identity. In summary, as long as vulnerable systems are connected to the Internet, there will be unauthorized people trying to access them.
The Interpeak Firewall, which works with both the existing Internet and the next generation Internet (IPv6), is a vital means to protect a connected device from such abuse. It can be configured to discard unwanted packets that might be part of a hacker attack so that the device can continue to run smoothly. Filtering rules can specify IP, IPv6, UDP and TCP packets in a variety of combinations. The Firewall can also log packets for later investigation, and may thus serve as a configurable log device.
"Hacker attacks are an everyday reality in today's Internet, and will be an even bigger threat in the future as more and more computers become permanently connected," said Johan Fornaeus, CEO of Interpeak AB. "The Interpeak Firewall with its packet filtering features is an imperative component when building protection against such attacks."
Availability: The Interpeak Firewall is currently available.
