San Francisco, Calif., March 29, 2001 – The RapidIO™ Trade Association, an open standards industry consortium, will hold its first European conference in France on April 17 and 18, 2001. The RapidIO European Symposium 2001 is open to the industry and will feature technical presentations on the new interconnect architecture and an opportunity to meet with member companies from around the world.
Released in March, the RapidIO specification is backed by major industry vendors including Alcatel, Cisco Systems, EMC Corp., Ericsson, Lucent Technologies, Mercury Computer Systems, Motorola and Nortel Networks, among others. It provides an open standard for “in-the-box” chip and board connections used in networking and telecommunications equipment, storage subsystems, signal and image processing devices, and other embedded computing and communication systems.
The European symposium will provide an opportunity for open dialogue among industry professionals, the technical team developing the specification, the association’s steering committee executives and other member companies. It opens with an evening reception on April 17 with seminars and discussion sessions on April 18.
The RapidIO Trade Association is a non-profit organization working toward the implementation of an open standard interconnect technology that is better suited to networking than today’s computer-centric bus standards. Membership in the organization provides the opportunity to impact the future direction of the technology, to recommend changes in the specification, and to attend the organization’s meetings.
Improving interconnect communications is essential to developing the next-generation networks and embedded systems. The RapidIO specification addresses these issues with new technology that also is compatible with existing PCI architectures and is software transparent. Its defines a switch fabric-based control plane interconnect that offers significantly greater bandwidth, more scalability and higher reliability than the bus-based control plane interconnects used today.
The RapidIO European Symposium 2001 will be held at Grand Hotel Mercure in Sophia Antipolis, France, and costs $1090 FF including room and meals. More information and online registration is available at the association’s Web site, http://www.rapidio.org/europeansymposium. The specification can be downloaded by industry professionals at http://www.rapidio.org.
About the RapidIO Trade Association
The RapidIO Trade Association is a non-profit organization driving the adoption of an open standard, high-performance interconnect architecture. The RapidIO Interconnect Specification is a packet-switched interconnect technology that improves reliability, bus speeds and scalability of the intra-system connections between chips and boards. The association has over 40 member companies worldwide with headquarters in San Francisco, Calif. Membership provides early access to the specifications, the ability to propose changes to RapidIO standards, and the opportunity to actively participation in the adoption process.
