Ayer, MA., July 13, 2000, Hybricon Corporation announces the release of a new line of rackmount enclosures which are designed to meet stringent military COTS requirements. The enclosures are configured with a 12-slot VME64x backplane, three rear mounted 350 watt hot swappable power supplies with N+1 redundant configuration and three front mounted carriers for 6 hot-pluggable SCSI LVD hard drives. Cooling is provided via 4 DC fans mounted in a removable fan tray below the card cage and 4 DC fans (2 push/2 pull) straddling the rear mounted power supplies. Sustainable operation is possible in fan failure mode. System monitoring for power, temperature and fan failure indicates three conditions of performance-nominal, degrade, and fail. Low acoustic and structure-borne noise levels are achieved using acoustic damping and a closed-loop monitoring circuit for fan speed/temperature.
CoolSlot enclosures solve overheating problems with Hybricon's patented air deflecting CoolSlot card guides which eliminate cooling "dead spots" on boards and provide more uniform airflow throughout the system. Extensive testing, which includes thermal modeling and simulation, shows an improvement of 50% in board areas near the front panel and backplane that are blocked by the extrusions and thus normally deprived of airflow.
Additional features include:
Ø IEEE 1101.10 compliant
Ø Front and rear ground clips provide proper grounding (per IEC 950 section 2) for all plug-in modules thereby reducing the chances of circuit damage by electrostatic discharge
